VE Day 75th Anniversary

We can’t have a full Sunray Social due to the CV-19 lock-down, however, you can have a Stay At Home Street Party by decorating your house in red, white and blue and having a picnic in your front or back garden (as long as it’s just you and people that normally live on the house – no inviting friends or family over!)

Join the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm by standing up, raising a glass of refreshment of your choice and undertake the following ‘Toast’: “To those who gave so much, we thank you,”

The Big Lunch 2019

organised by: Ajantha Pratheepan

On Saturday 3rd August 2019, the first Sunray Community Big Lunch Street Party was held.

Over 100 adults and children came along, shared food, listened to some tunes, played some games, relaxed and had fun.

If you would like to help out or run an event in the future, please feel free to email us hello@secra.org.uk

About the event:

The Sunray Estate is a special place, it has been my family home since birth. My children now call the Sunray home and we have lived in Knollmead since my eldest was born.

As an adult living here, I was starting to feel that the community we once had here was dwindling and I wanted to get involved in putting on an event to address this. I’d already thought a food based event would be popular but I just wanted to give people, new and old, an opportunity to come out, meet each other and celebrate together. The idea of a Big Lunch was proposed by Helen Emmett and with a bit of help from the Sunray Community group we set about planning the big event.

The idea of a Big Lunch was proposed by Helen Emmett and with a bit of help from the Sunray Community group we set about planning the big event.

As you can see from the pictures the event was really well attended, we enjoyed lots of delicious home cooked food, drinks and cakes. My son Rakul took over the mic and asked everyone who attended what they thought of the Sunray Community. The responses were so positive and just what I’d hoped for.

We had music provided by Mr Ilankovan and my children, weaving with Debbie Chessell, rock painting with Helen Hill and face painting with Helen Grocott. Janine Martin ensured everything was recycled at the end and Wendy Francis White was selling the Sunray vintage posters.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, including family and friends, who helped behind the scenes to ensure the event was successful. Thank you to all who attended and supported the Big Lunch Street Party.

Easter Egg Hunt 2019

We were so lucky this year, Easter Saturday 2019 was an absolute scorcher. In Vincent Ave residents set up a fantastic Easter egg hunt along with range of other exciting forms of entertainment for the whole family.

All those who were taking part lined up for the big start at 1:30pm and on the sound of the whistle everyone scattered in smaller groups to search the green and surrounding places or anywhere chocolate eggs might be hidden.

Other activities included face painting with Helen, a photo section, lots of cakes and sweets for sale and more.

If you attended the event and would like to tell us your experience we would love to here from you. Send us pics and your thoughts.

As always if you would like to help out or run an event in the future, please feel free to email us hello@secra.org.uk

Christmas Social 2018

At the end of 2018 we teamed up with the 6th Tolworth Scouts to put on a festive Christmas social event at the Sunray Community Club. It was well attended and tremendous fun. As you can see we were led by Helen into a few rounds of Christmas Carols singing. We also had a fantastic cake stall, a raffle and lots of table top games. Georgia / Charlie and Andy were also there from ShedX showing us their greening ideas for Tolworth and giving away free street trees.

This event was our first money maker and we made around £200 each. Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported us.
