On Saturday 3rd August 2019, the first Sunray Community Big Lunch Street Party was held.

Over 100 adults and children came along, shared food, listened to some tunes, played some games, relaxed and had fun.

If you would like to help out or run an event in the future, please feel free to email us hello@secra.org.uk

About the event:

The Sunray Estate is a special place, it has been my family home since birth. My children now call the Sunray home and we have lived in Knollmead since my eldest was born.

As an adult living here, I was starting to feel that the community we once had here was dwindling and I wanted to get involved in putting on an event to address this. I’d already thought a food based event would be popular but I just wanted to give people, new and old, an opportunity to come out, meet each other and celebrate together. The idea of a Big Lunch was proposed by Helen Emmett and with a bit of help from the Sunray Community group we set about planning the big event.

The idea of a Big Lunch was proposed by Helen Emmett and with a bit of help from the Sunray Community group we set about planning the big event.

As you can see from the pictures the event was really well attended, we enjoyed lots of delicious home cooked food, drinks and cakes. My son Rakul took over the mic and asked everyone who attended what they thought of the Sunray Community. The responses were so positive and just what I’d hoped for.

We had music provided by Mr Ilankovan and my children, weaving with Debbie Chessell, rock painting with Helen Hill and face painting with Helen Grocott. Janine Martin ensured everything was recycled at the end and Wendy Francis White was selling the Sunray vintage posters.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, including family and friends, who helped behind the scenes to ensure the event was successful. Thank you to all who attended and supported the Big Lunch Street Party.
