The monthly litterpick meetings are taking place and complying with the 2m distance guidelines.  Hand wipes and sanitiser will also be available. You are also welcome to litter pick during your daily exercise 🙂 If you would like a litter pick tool, please email hello@secra.org.uk

Our first sunray litterpick was back in March 2018, it involved quite a lot of planning and was in collaboration with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA) and the 6th Tolworth Scouts. When we woke up on the morning of the event the estate was dusted with snow. Despite this, 25 people attended this special event and we enjoyed freshly prepared pakora and cups of hot tea.

Since January 2019 we have been the only organisation in the borough of Kingston to organise a regular schedule of litter picking events. We always meet on the first Saturday of the month at 10am on the green in Barnsbury Crescent. Everyone is very welcome to join in and you will be welcomed by one of the team, who will be handing out litter pickers, bags and a high viz vest for health and safety purposes so you can be seen from afar. We normally get between 15 – 20 people and they are very sociable events. We are often joined by David our PSCO from the safer neighbourhood team.

We generally spend around an hour at these events, but we have adopted the #2minutelitterpick title as our brand. The idea is that you continue to do your 2 minute’s of litter picking as and when you can through out the month.

It’s thought that if only 25% of the population of the UK spent 2 minutes a week picking up litter visible to them, the problem of discarded litter would be eradicated from our streets. We can’t expect to sort the problem across the UK, but we can strive to improve the look, feel and experience for those living and visiting the Sunray estate.
