AED stands for automated external defibrillator. These are used to revive a casualty when CPR alone is not enough after a heart stoppage.
Anyone could do this without training in a dire emergency using an automatic device which has inbuilt screen guidance. The first minutes are vital!
The proposal is that SECra should obtain one for use by anyone around the Sunray Estate. It will be installed in a weatherproof powered cabinet and Sunray Surgery on Warren Drive South have agreed to locate this on the exterior of their front wall. A high-level 3D sign would be mounted on the side wall visible above parked cars.
We have discussed the proposal with London Ambulance Service (LAS), and they have confirmed we would need at least a semi-automatic device, and that it is kept in an unlocked cabinet to avoid delay deploying it. We can then be accredited and join their ‘ShockinglyEasy’ Campaign which will enable them to notify first responders and members of the public calling in that an AED device is available near by.
As the device would be in an unlocked cabinet, there is also the option to purchase an electronic tracking device to deter theft or locate it if need be.
Research shows that the probability of survival increases dramatically when CPR is performed and when an AED is applied before an ambulance arrives. It can take between 7 and 15 minutes for an ambulance to arrive so having the AED located at the most central part of the Sunray Estate would enable potential deployment prior to an ambulance arriving.
While only 50% of those who experience SCA will initially require a shock, every victim needs CPR to increase the flow of oxygenated blood to the heart and brain.
To achieve high-quality CPR, ZOLL® AEDs guide rescuers with Real CPR Help®, then deliver a shock, if needed. No other AEDs support rescuers with integrated, real-time instruction and comprehensive feedback on compression rate and depth like ZOLL AEDs.
Lives are not saved by AEDs alone. People save lives using an AED, and saving lives requires confident rescuers who provide high-quality CPR and use an AED with a working battery and pads that have not expired.
– Real CPR Help instils confidence by guiding rescuers to perform high-quality CPR with compressions to the Guidelines-recommended rate and depth.
– AED Programme Management ensures your AED is ready to go when needed.
– Fewer replacements with longer-lasting parts means a lower total cost of ownership and an AED that is ready for the rescue when needed.
